Restructuring of socioeconomic affairs
On 24 May 2019, Premier Kim Kielsen announced a restructuring of the mineral resource administration. The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Labour will now handle all socioeconomic aspects of mining.
This includes approval of the Social Impact Assessment and negotiation of the Impact Benefit Agreement. Both are mandatory before a mining permit is granted.
What does this restructuring mean? Re-establishment of the one-door-policy, where one authority is responsible for all case handling and approvals (except for the environmental aspects) for the mineral resource area.
This leads to a closer collaboration, more efficient administration and case handling. We are looking forward to continuously supporting our licensees in Greenland.
