The Government of Greenland has approved the extension of the consultation period for the mining project at Kuannersuit until 13 September 2021.
Because of the election to the Parliament of Greenland and the appointment of a new Government of Greenland it has proved impracticable to conduct the public consultation meetings with political participation before expiry of the consultation period on 1 June. One of the reasons for this is that notice of the consultation meetings must be given at least 14 days in advance, which has proven impossible. A postponement of the consultation period until 13 September 2021 makes it possible to hold consultation meetings in week 34 and 35.
Consultation meetings will be held in Igaliku, Nanortalik, Narsaq, Narsarsuaq, Qaqortoq and Qassiarsuk.
The following members of the Government of Greenland are expected to attend:
- Ms Naaja H. Nathanielsen, Minister for Housing, Infrastructure, Mineral Resources and Gender Equality,
- Mr Kalistat Lund, Minister for Agriculture, Self-Sufficiency, Energy and Environment, and
- Ms Kirsten L. Fencker, Minister for Health.
The consultation period now totals around 38 weeks.
