Mineral Licence and Safety Authority
The Mineral Licence and Safety Authority, MLSA, (Råstofstyrelsen) is the administrative authority for licensing issues and is the authority for safety matters including supervision and inspections. Licensees and other parties covered by the Mineral Resources Act communicate with the MLSA and receive all notifications, documents and decisions from the MLSA.
Ministry of Mineral Resources
The Ministry of Mineral Resources (MMR) is responsible for strategy-making, policy-making, legal issues and marketing of mineral resources in Greenland. The Ministry deals with geological issues through the Department of Geology.
Ministry of Industry, Labour and Trade
The Ministry of Industry, Labour and Trade (MILT) is authority for issues concerning Industry and Labour policy including social impact assessment (SIA) and Impact Benefit Agreements (IBA) for mineral resources and similar related socio economic issues. Furthermore, the MILT is according to the Agreement between the Greenland Government and the Danish Government (January 2016) the administrative body under the Government of Greenland, that cooperates with the competent Danish authorities, which ensures that any activities which among others concern exploration, exploitation and export of radioactive products are done in a way, which honors the Kingdom of Denmark’s international obligations to use nuclear material only for peaceful purpose.
Environmental Agency for Mineral Reource Activities
The Environmental Agency for Mineral Resource Activities, EAMRA, (Miljøstyrelsen for Råstofområdet), is the administrative authority for environmental matters relating to mineral resource activities, including protection of the environment and nature, environmental liability and environmental impact assessments.
