Tanbreez is granted an exploitation licence

On 13 August, the Government of Greenland approved an application for an exploitation permit for an area of 18 km2 located at Killavaat Alannguat in South Greenland to TANBREEZ Mining Greenland A / S (“ Tanbreez ”). Tanbreez will be granted an exploitation permit valid for a period of 30 years. The exploitation permit gives Tanbreez the right to exploit elements found in the eudialyte mineral.

The Minister for Industry and Mineral Resources, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, says: “It is with great pleasure that TANBREEZ Mining Greenland A/S (Tanbreez) is granted an exploitation licence that potentially largely can contribute to a positive and important development in the Kujalleq Municipality and the rest of Greenland.”

The Government of Greenland has also approved an Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) between Tanbreez, the Kujalleq Municipality and the Self-Government.

Both the exploitation licence and the IBA must be signed before they enter into force.

Ahead is the preparation of an exploitation and closure plan as well as activity plans. The preparation of these plans takes place in close collaboration between the company and the government. The company has a deadline of 31 December 2022 to obtain the government’s approval of the exploitation and closure plan, which will contain more detailed requirements for, among other things, safety and environmental issues.
